EP36 Back In Your Earholes
After an unintentionally long four-year break, Heather is back in your earholes with a fresh season of The Wellness Ninja Podcast — the wellness podcast that helps you actually enjoy life while taking better care of yourself. In this reintroduction episode, she shares what really happened during the hiatus, how her perspective on health and self-care has evolved, and why she’s embracing her imperfect action era.
You’ll hear about finding energy again in your 40s, redefining what “healthy” means, and letting go of the idea that you have to have it all figured out. If you’ve ever felt stuck, tired, or over the wellness noise, this episode will remind you that health is a journey — and it’s way more fun when we do it together.
Sometimes you just want to read, so here’s the transcript of this episode:
This is the Wellness Ninja Podcast, the podcast where you learn how to become the expert on your own health. The modern definition of a ninja is a person who excels in a particular skill and that's what I want to help you with. The skill of knowing yourself and creating the health and life you actually want. Which sounds all fancy but what does that really mean? Well join me as we dive into what real wellness actually involves. Hint, it's a hell of a lot more than what you eat and having bubble baths. And start to explore some different perspectives and gain clarity on what works for you. It's time to become a Wellness Ninja.
Hello and welcome back to the Wellness Ninja Podcast. I am like beyond excited to be back in your ear holes. Oh man has it been a break, an unintended break but also an intended break if you know what I mean. I knew I wanted to take a break I just didn't realize it was gonna be this long. I've had some things happen.I'm sure you've had some things happen. Life just keeps happening whether we're pausing or we're not pausing. The last episode of this show came out in 2021.
Oh man I didn't know four years was gonna go by. So why the break? Why come back now? Why should you listen? What are you gonna get out of it? That's what today's episode is about and I just wanted to reintroduce myself to people. I wanted to reintroduce the podcast to people. I wanted to reignite the excitement for this podcast by explaining why you should like this podcast and bring it into your ear holes. So when I took a break it was 2021 you know we were coming slowly out of the COVID crisis and I just felt like I didn't have any answers for anybody. I felt like social media had made health and wellness into kind of a gong show. We were having like keyboard warriors tried to argue with medical professionals. Medical professionals were struggling because like this was new territory and they were scrambling. Everybody was just trying their best and then you went on social media and it was like while I have nothing to do with medicine here's my opinion and my opinion is more important and like the some crazy shit started coming out of what you should and shouldn't be doing. There was so much misinformation. There was so much noise and I didn't feel equipped to share without adding to the noise. I didn't want to add to the noise.
I want if I was gonna share something it was gonna be because it was helpful and it wasn't just adding to the noise and I didn't at that time I didn't know how to do it. So I took a little bit of a break to kind of regroup. In that time my kids were in the middle school years going into high school. If you're a parent you know that that is like a really hard time for emotions and feelings and drama and all the things it was just a lot. I also had a parent my stepmother fall ill and had a very long prolonged illness. She passed away. There was a whole lot of drama involved with that and the subsequent things that happened afterwards and again I just felt like I don't know how to share without it just being noise and me talking.
So why come back now? Well I'm a little more rested now. Do I feel like I have like all the answers and solutions for people? Absolutely not.
I think what happened is that I've grown a lot over the last four years and I realized that I don't need to have all the answers in order to help people. I've never lost my love for podcasts and for learning and for growing. I hit my mid 40s. I'm 46 now and I have a lot to share and I have a lot to learn as I go and I have a lot to share as I learn and I'm really focused right now on how learning how to enjoy life more giving myself permission to do that without having all the right answers. So I'm letting go of having all the right answers and I'm entering into my imperfect action era. I have more energy. It's fall back-to-school vibe. I love it. Let's get into it. My kids are older and they're physically more independent. They're dependent in other ways.
So I have a little bit more capacity and I just really want to share ideas, explore new ways of thinking about health and about wellness, about how to make the changes in your lives that you know you want to make but you haven't been able to make them to figure out like what is getting the fuck in our way. I want to have really interesting discussions with interesting people. Side note I have yet to meet anyone that isn't interesting. So if you're listening to this you're a really interesting person. I want to share my work and try to be as helpful as I can and I want to learn and grow with you. I think I've always kind of felt that way but the last few years have really solidified that for me and made it so that I understand that I don't have to like be some kind of guru. Not that I was ever trying to be a guru. Oh my god if you've spent 10 minutes of my real life you'd know that I wasn't even close to that but I'm not even trying anymore. I'm just like hey I'm going along on this. Someone reached down and reached a hand to me and pulled me up. Let me do the same for you and let's just keep doing that and make a chain of people helping each other up. I love that imagery.
This is to my next point which is that however imperfectly I am inviting you to come have a weekly connection with me. A way to re-put the focus on improving your health and like here's the thing that like I so get like I knew here's that head knowledge right I knew it but now I like really get it that health isn't a set it and forget it. It's an ongoing journey and it is it can be really hard to stay focused because there's so many things vying for attention trying to get us off the focus of our health. The other part of that is that health does not mean how much you weigh. Health is not the size that you are. Health is encompassed of all the parts of your life. So like do you have healthy relationships? Do you have healthy inner self-talk? Do you have a healthy capacity to handle all the crap that keeps coming at you because we're humans in a world full of humans. Humans in a world full of an environment that we do not actually control though we try real hard. And can we have the capacity to handle that? Do we have healthy tools that let us work through the things that we're going through? Take care of ourselves? Take care of our loved ones? Take care of our world? And do we have just like health in our wealth? Do we have health in all the aspects? And like that's what I'm really interested in exploring and helping you connect with because we all know that person who like we look at them and they're like really oh my god like you have you're such a fit person you look fantastic oh my god you dress so well and then you spend five minutes with them and you're like oh you're you're kind of an asshole you are a judgmental twat okay so maybe being the perfect size isn't everything you look at someone and you might superficially judge them as being overweight maybe they dress a little frumpy you spend five minutes with them and you're like holy crap you are the kindest most caring person and you just see the good in people wow you are a really healthy person that way and this is again a side note just because someone looks overweight to you doesn't mean that they're not healthy physically this is just an example I'm using visually because your size does not determine your health that's a whole other discussion okay so I want to bring to you new ways of understanding why you feel the way that you do give you some helpful tools on how to make those changes like my whole work as a health and life coach is like helping people implement the things that they're learning because we can have amazing epiphanies we can have amazing breakthroughs in our thoughts and then we go back to our regular life and nothing fucking changes so what was the purpose of that epiphany what was that purpose of that new understanding feeling good for five minutes that's that's about it really we need these changes in thought to and changes in understanding to bring about change in our actual experience of life that's the goal and that is a little trickier than we would like and we should not be doing it alone I want to bring connection here I'm here to answer your questions talk about the problems and the roadblocks you're having and while I am the one talking into this little microphone and I'm coming into your ear holes this is in direct response to your questions and your feedback and the issues and concerns that my one-on-one clients are having and like we're collectively all having like your circumstance might look different but really like we're all experiencing a lot of the same things it's the human experience right and I want you to feel supported even when shit hits the fan I want to give you room to feel however you want to feel to still be human but also to keep trying for that change one step at a time because again right like health is a journey not a destination and we keep trying to make it a destination when I get to this then everything will be great that is not how life works do you know how I know that because that has never been the case for anyone anywhere life keeps life-ing and while that is a bit of a cliche at this point and I've probably said it a lot already you know sometimes cliches are because it's true so um you don't need to tackle life alone gaining a new perspective and a new narrative absolutely can change your life in a positive way and also you need to make some actual changes in your life so today's episode is an introduction I'm just talking about why I stopped why I'm doing this why I'm here why you should listen why should come back next week we're gonna be starting a four-part series next week going through the same method that I get all my clients to go through it's the vibe method and it is the best way I know currently on how to support you to make your actual changes and it doesn't come with just changing your diet right you're never you're actually probably never gonna get diet advice from me if you came to this podcast because you're like Heather tell me what to eat and how to exercise sorry to disappoint I don't do that I'm not a nutritionist or the personal trainer I hope you make the changes that those people ask you to make so I want this is my invitation to you join me on this journey I'm gonna share thoughts and ideas and information it's a collaborative learning experience like I'm really open to feedback I'm really open to questions I feel that becoming a wellness ninja so in my intro I explain what a wellness ninja is and like it's essentially becoming an expert on yourself and I think it's important for everyone to become an expert on themselves and to learn how to learn about themselves and to learn how to figure out what works for you and to get a better at listening to our bodies and to our souls and if we can listen better then we get better answers for ourselves so each week I'm gonna share an idea or concept or I'm gonna have a conversation with a fellow wellness ninja my goal is to keep it to a nice listenable amount of time today's is gonna be a little shorter than the rest are gonna be because I you don't want to wear people out this first episode so join me in the next four episodes where we're gonna go through my vibe method which is vision identify build and evolve if that sounds a little bit like oh those are just some words you threw I'm gonna explain them people I can't explain them today I'm gonna explain them each on their own in their own individual episodes one thing that I'm super excited about is if you are on my email list which you should absolutely be on my email list you can go to my website and click join the newsletter I'm gonna be sharing with my email the new episode every week but also there's also gonna be like a PDF or like a little like take action section in that email that has to do with the podcast episode and that will make it much more actionable for you so instead of just being like a passive listener you get to have something that like okay I listen to that Heather and I learned what do I do with it I'm gonna give you the tool of what to do with it okay so I'm excited about that new addition you do have to be on my email list for that I get it we all get a lot of emails maybe you could unsubscribe from some of the store emails that you get and subscribe to mine so that we can make some positive changes in your health I'm just saying we all have them I don't know why Old Navy keeps emailing me but they do okay thank you for letting me into your earholes this fabulous whatever day of the week it is for you I'm releasing this on Fridays so I'll say this fabulous Friday hit me up on instagram @heatherlindholmhealth.
Let me know your questions I'm gonna put a poll up every Friday well maybe every Saturday give people a chance to listen to the podcast just asking like what were your thoughts on it what are your questions about it what would you like to see and I really just want your feedback I want this to be like a very collaborative podcast moving forward the last time I was doing the podcast I did a lot of like interviews with people and I just talked about subjects that I found interesting which is great if you go back and listen to old episodes I'm very proud of them they're very helpful please do but moving forward I really just want to focus in on what do you actually need and want to know where are you struggling where is your your you know sticky points in your health journey and I mean health in all the things all the ways you know where is your energy lagging where your relationships kind of sucking where are you feeling like really I I checked all the boxes and this is it this this is this is what I get I did everything right what the actual hell I should feel better I should have more I should be different that sort of deep internalized feelings especially for those of us who are you know in their 40s late 30s 50s we're all kind of like what the heck so I want to address that I want to tackle that I want to be in collaboration with you so with that being said thank you so much for letting me into back into your ear holes after this big long break which was much longer than I thought it would be and I'm so freaking excited to be back folks I'm back so if you like this if you're excited about this if you're like yay new episodes please share this with a friend write a review tell me what you're excited about participation in sharing is like the lifeblood of the podcast.
